I have a Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar Sony digital handyman that uses mini DV tapes. Would this method work with my camera? I’ve looked at a lot of other tutorials and they all say I need 3 different cables. Dv to FireWire 800, Apple FireWire to thunderbolt, thunderbolt to usbc. But Apple FireWire to thunderbolt is impossible to find as it is discontinued 🥲 I’ve been looking for a solution for a year now. Please help!

AF on a macro lens is useless as udders on a bull. Even if it does find focus, there is no guarantee it will focus on what you _want_ to be in focus. Although I am a daily Nikon user, I have a Spotmatic F and 7 Takumar lenses from 24mm f/3.5 to 300mm f/4 SMC. All are extremely well built, focus butterly smooth and very sharp with a high resolution film like Kodak T-Max 100

I own and use the following affordable wide-angle lenses: 28mm f/2.5 Vivitar M42 mount 28mm f/2.8 Takumar M42 mount 35mm f/3.5 Takumar M42 mount

Beginning of the 70s when these lenses wer built multicoating (especially the Pentax SMC) was a huge step forward. Therefor in most cases I would prefer the SMC-Takumar-Versions over the Super-Takumar-Versions. Btw: only the SMCs pride open aperture metering on SPF and ES/II.

Nice review - Thank you I had this lens from 74...02 and liked it on film very much. (btw. production started 71 until Pentax switched to K-Mount in 75). When I switched to K-Mount in 02 I sold ist and bought a M35/2 as a replacement, but was never that happy with it. Meanwhile I got th K35/2 which seems to be mostly identical to the SMC-Takumar.

I'm new to the Hi8 family, actually I'm not even 20 years old, I found a fully japanese version of the Hi8 and apparently the screen is broken but it still has the tape inside and I'm not sure if the charger is working, I'll try my best to repair it and put it to work again

Have you ever compared the Takumar 35mm F2 versus the Konica 35mm F2? Can you do a comparison?

Thanks for the video. I was choosing between this and the Super Takumar but found the Mir-10A available at the camera store I go to. I also have the TAIR-11A and KMZ Helios 44 to make a set. Maybe one day I can afford to rehouse.

Not to forget that teh 6-element-version has a K-Mount re-incanation. I hat the 6e. SMC Takumar from 75 to 02, bought and sold a K-version and rebought it meanwhile again to use it on my K1 - for K-Mount use the automatic apperature is a big handling advantage

I had the later SMC-K-Versoin some years ago. On a DSLR it was quite difficult to get in-focus pictures and the CAs of that lens were extreme.

Any of the 50 to 58mm Minoltas you can find at f1.7 are the best bargain on ebay. Usually maxing out at 40 bucks while the faster 1.4's keep moving up. Get a 1.7 even if you have the faster models. Wonderful renderings.

Just a couple of thoughts while the ads are playing! The first version was the Helios 44. No M but sometimes Start. They were from 1958. They went to f22, but had a longer minimum focus distance. They had a unique mount. The next version went to m39. Much easier to deal with! Nice video though! 😀
